PCC welcomes LEB’s Aquende as new Commissioner

The Philippines Competition Commission (PCC) completes its roster of Commissioners with the appointment of Atty. Emerson B. Aquende, former Chairman of the Legal Education Board (LEB).

Atty. Aquende took his oath as the new PCC Commissioner before President Rodrigo R. Duterte on March 3, 2020.

“We are pleased to welcome a distinguished government official with valuable experience in legal practice and education, to provide another perspective and enrich the Commission’s collegial decision-making process,” said PCC Chairman Arsenio M. Balisacan.

As the chief regulator of legal education in the country, Atty. Aquende led the supervision of law schools across the country, which included setting standards for accreditation and law school admission, and prescribing the basic curricula for the course of study aligned with the requirements for admission to the Bar.

Prior to his chairmanship of LEB, Atty. Aquende served as managing partner of Aquende Ralla and Associates Law Offices, while serving as the Dean of Aquinas University’s College of Law.

Atty. Aquende will be assuming the Commissioner post vacated by Dr. Stella Luz A. Quimbo, who won a congressional seat in May 2019.
